London: Jonathan Cape, 1957. First English edition, translated from the French. No marks or inscriptions. No creasing to covers or to spine. A very clean very tight copy with bright unmarked boards with a clear silver snowflake design on the front, very minor rubbing to spine ends and no bumping to corners. The vertical page edges are very lightly foxed. Unclipped dust jacket. The upper one cm of the jacket has been exposed above the book and thus lightly creased, dusty and rubbed at corners. The end papers hold photographs of each of the eleven team members. The story of the successful ascent of Makalu in the Himalayas, the fifth highest summit in the world, by a French team in 1955. The book is written by the expedition leader Jean Franco and it follows their preparation on reconnaisance the year before. Part of the expedition's claims to success lies in the fact that all team members reached the summit, which was attained on three successive days. A very scarce book. 256pp. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good (+)/Good (+). 8 x 5.5 inches.

Description:
As new laminated softcover, revised & updated edition not stating the year. 176p. 17,5X12,8cm.Greece is not all sun and sea - three-quarters of the country is mountains. They are unexplored, undeveloped and very beautiful. Though rugged, Alpine meadows soften the harshness of the crags, forests fill the ravines, and springs and rivers abound - especially in central and northern Greece. Originally published in 1986, this is the first comprehensive guide to the Greek mountains to appear in any language. As well as detailed descriptions of hiking routes, it provides background information about mountain life and practical help with getting around, accommodation, etc. The hikes range from a month-long traverse of the Pindos range to day-length walks on the outskirts of Athens. Of all grades, they are well within the capabilities of a reasonably fit and committed walker. (from back cover)
