About This Item

New York: Coward-McCann, 1928. Early Printing. Oblong octavo, unpaginated, stiff printed boards, old white tape repairs to tears on mulitpole

In AMERICAN PICTUREBOOKS, Barbara Bader declared that MILLIONS OF CATS was "the first true picturebook" - and defended it. While this copy is dated from 1928, it is not the earliest printing bacause it does not mention Jersey City on the copyright page, but neither does it list any additional printings. Not a great copy, but a placeholder, and better than nothing.

Synopsis

Once upon a time there was an old man and an old woman who were very lonely. They decided to get a cat, but when the old man went out searching, he found not one cat, but millions and billions and trillions of cats! Unable to decide which one would be the best pet, he brought them all home. How the old couple came to have just one cat to call their own is a classic tale that has been loved for generations. Winner of a Newbery Honor, this collector's edition—featuring a heavy interior stock, spot gloss and embossing on the cover, and a thread-sewn binding—will bring this beloved tale to a whole new generation of readers.

About Thomas J. Joyce And Company

Joyce And Company has been in business as a professional rare bookseller and appraiser since 1975. Owner Thomas Joyce was the regular book appraiser on Home & Garden TV\'s \"The Appraisal Fair\\\" program, on international broadcasts. Thomas Joyce was the co-discoverer of George Washington's personal copy of William Leybourn's 1679 edition of THE COMPLEAT SURVEYOR, from which young Washington learned some of his surveying skills at age 16. The book had vanished for nearly a century until its re-discovery in 2017. It is now back at Mt. Vernon.
