About This Item

New York: Dodd, Mead & Company, 1910. Octavo (8.75" x 6.25"), unpaginated. Publisher's gilt-lettered light gray/ blue cloth with a pictorial illustration applied to the front cover

Five pages with brief ink annotations, otherwise a Fine, largely unused copy.

A spectacular example of a publisher's binding, this with floral endpapers initialed in print by designer Bertha Stewart who also contributes the pictorial cover & internal decorations. Renowned illustrator Harrison Fisher adds a color frontis in his characteristic "beautiful girl" style. Annotations within indicate that this was the copy of a young woman who attended the Episcopal Female Institute in Winchester, Virginia.

"This book will be found to be a convenient form in which to keep a record of one's commencement and all the interesting facts connected with it, including accounts of the exercises, brief sketches of the teachers, the classmates, newspaper clippings, etc The keeping of such a record will afford a great deal of entertainment, not only at the time when it is all fresh in mind, but in the future years, when it was served to recall many pleasant memories which otherwise would be forgotten."
 ~Quoted from the preface
