Contemporary full tree calf, the spine with gilt-lettered black morocco label, & embellishments in gilt.
Binding lightly rubbed, hinges beginning to crack (still secure), internally occasionally stained, heavily foxed, last blank leaf with hole, an attractive binding.
Book 5 provides "Odes: Pindaric, Horacion, etc" Book 6, "Elegiac and Funereal."

Publisher's three-quarter crushed black morocco & blue cloth, the spine in five compartments separated by raised bands, lettered or decorated in gilt in four compartments. Text in two columns. Top edge gilt.
Edges & joints moderately rubbed, cloth with a few light scratches, corners a bit bumped, gift inscription at front free endpaper, sporadic minor foxing, otherwise Very Good.
An attractive leather binding housing concise biographies & portrait illustrations of prominent Americans. Beginning in 1931, the American Historical Company published similar volumes of this title over several years, each profiling different persons.

New York: Harper & Brothers, (1956) Revised edition. 8vo, xvi, 612 pp., Later full crushed blue morocco, the spine in 6 compartments seperated by raised bands, lettered and decorated in gilt in all compartments, gilt doublures, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, ribbon marker sewn in, original cloth bound in the back.
Binding slightly sunned, early and late leaves browned in the margins, still near fine . The author was professor and subchairman of the psychology department at the Baruch School of Business.

Koa wood backed in goat, with a pair of gilt-lettered spine labels: "YPO" & "Hawaii, 1993."A few unobtrusive scratches, otherwise fine. Nine volumes, 16mo (6.75" x 4.5"), variously paginated, uniformly (and exquisitely) bound by Ernst Hertzberg & Sons (signed in blind on the recto of the rear free endpaper) ca. 19-teens. Full dark brown crushed morocco, the spines in five compartments separated by raised bands, lettered in gilt in one compartment, with elegant tooling in black wrapping the spines onto both boards mimicking coptic fastenings tied up with fleur-de-lys fasteners. Top edges gilt, floral blind-tooled inner dentelles, brown laid-paper doublures, and brown satin-ribbon page-markers bound in, with velvet-lined, tan cloth over board slipcase.
A few ribbon markers frayed, occasional light rubbing mostly at the joints, otherwise about Fine in slipcase which is soiled & stained mostly at the back of the box.

A spectacular example of a publisher's binding, this with floral endpapers initialed in print by designer Bertha Stewart who also contributes the pictorial cover & internal decorations. Renowned illustrator Harrison Fisher adds a color frontis in his characteristic "beautiful girl" style. Occasional very minor rubbing mostly affecting raised bands, one volume with slight wear at the top of the spine, a bit of toning to marbled paper, hinge started in volume one (still secure), otherwise near fine.
