This work follows a young historian who has recently married an upper-class girl from New England and moved the both of them to Los Angeles. They both strike up relationships with different people, one a girl named Ceci who embodies the uninhibited nature of Los Angeles, and the other a psychiatrist whose wife is a famous film starlet. Alison Lurie (1926-2020) was an American novelist and academic.
