Sir Robert was a chemist and archeologist who partnered with Howard Carter and Arthur Weigall at Thebes, With 160 black and white illustrations and a folding plan of the Palace of Knossos. 8vo, publisher's original dark-blue cloth gilt lettered and decorated on the spine, the upper cover with full gilt pictorial decoration and gilt lettering, t.e.g. 348 pp. A fine copy, bright and clean, tight and strong.. FIRST EDITION WITH FINE PROVENANCE. A scarce book and a superb accounting of Mosso's excavations at Crete and his study of the culture of its inhabitants dating back 14,000 years. A collection of travels and of studies as regards the civilisation of the pre-Hellenic world before the time of Homer. This work brings recent archaeological discoveries to the fore. Additionally, a profusion of illustrations show an account of the monuments and serve as a source for learning the civilisation.
