The collected poems of Thomas Gray, English poet known for his 1751 Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard. An Eton College edition bound in a full calf prize binding signed Spottiswoode & Co., awarded to Gulielmo Adolpho Partridge, dated 1909. Complete with half title. Featuring a frontispiece portrait of the author as well as decorative initials, head and tail pieces, and other full page plates of engravings of charming landscapes. Containing Gray's original poems as well as translations into English and Latin verse of the works of Petrarca, from the Anthologia Græca, and others. In a full calf Eton College prize binding, with five raised bands and gilt tooling to the spine, Eton College lion crest to the front and rear boards, gilt to the edges, marbled endpapers. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear only. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean, only minor spotting affecting leaves of plates and frontispiece offsetting to title page. Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
