A bright first edition, first printing of Wolfe's collection of essays exploring the counterculture of the 1960s. The first edition, first printing of this work in the publisher's original quarter cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. A collection of essays exploring aspects of 1960s counterculture, such as new status symbols and lifestyles, by Tom Wolfe (1930-2018). The most famous story in the collection concerns Jack Macpherson and his gang of surfers who frequented a sewage pump house at Windansea Beach in California. Wolfe was associated with the 'New Journalism' of the 1960s and 1970s, a style of journalism which incorporated literary techniques. In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth and boards are in excellent condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Marks to the spine and front flap of the dust wrapper, which is otherwise in excellent condition. Fine

The Pump House Gang is a 1968 collection of essays and journalism by Tom Wolfe. The stories in the book explored various aspects of the counterculture of the 1960s. The most famous story in the collection, from which the book takes its name, is about Jack Macpherson and his gang of surfers that frequented a sewage pump house at Windansea Beach in La Jolla, California.
