[New York]: [Metropolitan Opera House], [1885]. Very Good. 23.5 x 17 cm. [5], 17 double pages, [1]pp. Light blue-grey wrappers printed in black, text in English and German. Light foxing to wrappers; light vertical center crease throughout. Libretto from the first American season of "The Queen of Sheba", whose opening performance was in Vienna in 1875, and which debuted in America at the Metropolitan Opera House in December 1885. The Boston Globe reported that at the opening night's performance in New York, "[e]verybody was there, from Vanderbilt up, including George Jones, Whitelaw Reid, Perry Belmont, the Damrosch family ... and many others" (Dec. 3, 1895).Rare. Not located in OCLC, although an 1889 edition is at the NYPL.
