From the Wikipedia webpage for William W. Wood: Chief Engineer William W. W. Wood (1818-31 August 1882) was an engineer of the United States Navy, who served as Engineer-in-Chief of the Bureau of Steam Engineering from 1873 until 1877. He was appointed to the Navy from New York on 15 March 1845 with the rank of chief engineer. He spent his first two years in the navy stationed at the Pensacola Navy Yard, Florida. He briefly did special duty at Boston, and then from 1850 to 1853 served on the paddle-sloop Saranac in the Home Squadron. From 1854 to 1857, Wood superintended the constructions of the engines of the screw-frigate Merrimack at Cold Spring, New York. His next appointment was for two years serving in the screw-sloop Lancaster on the Pacific Squadron. From 1862 to 1866 Wood spent most of his time on special duty in Philadelphia, New York and Boston. Wood was assigned to the United States Naval Academy from 1866 to 1867. Wood was Inspector of Machinery Afloat in New York from 1870 to 1872. Wood was promoted to engineer-in-chief in 1872, and was appointed Chief of the Bureau of Steam Engineering on 20 March 1873, his successor was appointed on 3 March 1877. Wood was assigned to special duty in 1878, and was placed on the retired list on 31 May 1880. As noted on the Wikipedia Page, W. W. Yesterday's Book shop is owned and operated by a disabled veteran. Due to my limitations, I often have to rely on speech-to-text software to list the books. If the description has typos ("and pages" instead of "end pages", pace downs instead of pastedowns, guilt instead of gilt, etc,) PLEASE let me know so I can correct the listing. The software spells words by phonetics and can make errors that I may not catch.

There is a 30 day money back guarantee if the book arrives damaged or is not as described. Please contact us prior if you have any issues with your purchases and we will make sure you are taken care of.

About Yesterday's Book Shop (Member IOBA)

Yesterday's Book Shop is an independent, family-owned establishment. The store first opened in 1966 under the name Collector's Corner and was located in Western Maryland. The Collector's Corner dealt mainly in books but also sold stamps and assorted ephemera. In 1975 the name was changed to Yesterday's Book Shop when the store only offered books and printed matter. In the early 2000s the brick and mortar store was closed and now we only sell online.

All of the book pictures were taken at the time the book was listed and we never use generic or stock photos in any listing. If you would like additional photos or information on any listing please let us know and we will be more than happy to comply.
