About This Item
Edinburgh: David Brown, 1824. Fine Binding. Very Good. 5.5" by 3". None. A beautiful pocket-sized edition of James Grahame's poem The Sabbath A charming little book containing James Grahame's most celebrated poem 'The Sabbath', alongside a collection of some of his shorter works. Grahame (1765-1811) was a Scottish poet and philanthropist, writing a joint volume of poetry alongside James Montgomery and Elizabeth Bengor about the abolition of slavery in 1809. 'The Sabbath' is a wonderfully descriptive poem in blank verse, uniting the Scottish countryside and religious devotion in keeping with Grahame's Anglicanism. This edition is in a full calf binding, with gilt spines and borders. In a full calf binding. Externally lovely, minor shelfwear to the spine. Internally firmly bound, pages bright and clean, 2cm tear to page 41 and 43. Very Good
