London: Smith Elder, 1913. First edition, first impression. Portraits, plates, folding maps and panoramas. Two volumes 8vo (9 3/4 x 6 3/4 inches) pages xxvI:633 & xv:534. Original blue cloth lettered in gilt, top edges gilt, others uncut; some rubbing to joints and headbands, corners bumped. Scattered foxing and some browning. Contemporary signature on front pastedowns. Overall a very good copy.
