Macmillan and Co. Cambridge. 1859. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. (7.1 x 5.5 inches). xi, 228pp. Beautifully illustrated throughout by Doyle, including a double page frontispiece. A fine ad clean copy in a fine leather binding by Bayntun of bath. Full dark green Morocco. Spine with raised bands, each with gilt dots. The compartments ruled, letered and dotted in gilt. Board edges with small gilt dot lines. Both boards with matching decorative ruled line and dot design. Double gilt rules to the turn-ins and with decorative outer corner pieces. marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Silk bookmark. The original decorative blue cloth spine and front board are bound in at the rear. Hosed in a felt lined slip case with light green cloth covering. A little rubbing to the centre of a couple of the raised bands, otherwise a fine copy.
