About This Item

New York: Alfred A. Knopf,. Good with no dust jacket. 1930. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. In the original pictorial paper-covered boards. NO dustjacket. Covers = Good Minus. Internally = VG Plus but with the slight faults noted. The spine is sunned, but the black title - Something Perfectly Silly - is very clear, however the Author and Publisher were also printed in pink (! ) on the spine and this has now faded to virtually unreadable. The head/tail of the spine are chipped with a little loss to the top edge. Bumped and rubbed corners. The paper boards are most attractive and have retained their bright colour but are a bit soiled, and the PAPER at points on the front and rear hinges is partially split, but the covers/binding is solid and ALL hinges tight. The rear cover is plain and a little marked/dusty, as is the front cover but as noted the front cover is quite bright with the yellow base colour and depicting boldly a full pink, green and black illustration from one of the limericks, with the titling. Internally Very Good - NO Inscriptions - BUT one illustration only has a light corner crease, another has a small bottom inner edge closed tear, but one other has been torn down the inner edge/border of the illustration, has a very light stain on a blank area, and has an old repair to the torn edge with now yellowing sellotape, otherwise NO other Marks. VG Pink illustrated endpapers (A Fairground by Harrie Wood) a few very light marks, but bright and clean overall. 64 pages (printed on rectos only) . All boldly illustrated in bright colours by Harrie Wood. Very 1930! . LOVELY! . The book is now in a new protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic cover. "A collection of limericks, each one accompanied by a full page drawing in colour." - " They Say That A Gnarly Old Gnu, Kept A Shop Somewhere Near Timbuctu, And He Sold As Antique, Things Made Only Last Week. But I Know The Gnu Knew They Were New." . Delightful! . A Scarce Title. Further Images available on request. ; Small 4to 9" - 11" tall .
