About This Item

London: Chapman and Hall, 1839. Dublin-born Samuel Lover (1797-1868) achieved great polularity with his songs and novels; he also was an artist and business partner of Charles Dickens. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the First Edition. Uncommon. Nicely bound in green leather; stamped, filled with gilt; darker green tips and spine. The spine has raised bands and four Irish harps.Rubbed at the margins, but no flaking. Clean text; 134 pages. Samuel Lover has INSCRIBED this copy and SIGNED it ("S.L.") on the Title Page. This is an ex-lib copy, but the treatments are minimal and probably date from the 19th Century. Quercus notes stamps on the FFEP and the rear paste-down, and there is a small pocket on the RFEP that has offset to the paste-down. A lovely little volume, and rare with the author's hand. Size: 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. Inscribed By Author. First Edition.. Full-Leather. Very Good Plus/No Jacket.
