About This Item
London: Duckworth, 1945. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Good. 8.5" by 5.5". None. A smart reprint of this collection of verses from Franco-English writer, Hilaire Belloc. New edition, with additional poems. Reprinted, originally published 1923. A collection of poetry with several unpublished sonnets, new epigrams, and a long heroic poem in praise of wine. Written by Hilaire Belloc, a Franco-English writer and historian who was also known as an orator, poet, sailor, satirist, writer of letters, soldier, and political activist. Belloc's Catholic faith had a strong effect on his works. In the original unclipped dust wrapper, with cancelled print of Athos: Treasures and Men by Robert Byron printed to the internal side. This was a common practice in war-time as a saving measure. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also smart with light shelf wear and chipping resulting in minor loss to the head of the spine. Sunning to the spine and the odd mark to the panels. Pencil inscription to the front flap dated 1946. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light age toning to the endpapers. Very Good Indeed
