MODENA: PRESSO LA SOCIETA TIPOGRAFICA, 1784. In folio. cm. 38,5x27. Pp. XIX+526+(4). Antica firma di possesso all'occhietto. In buone condizioni. Legatura in ottime condizioni. Faboulous work of 1784, the history of Badia of Nonantola written by Girolamo Tiraboschi (1731-1794). The author describes the goods belonging to Badia so including the areas of Modena, Bologna, Avellana, Solara, Frignano, Cremona, Pavia, Milano, Mantova, Piacenza, Parma, Ferrara, Valfabbrica nella diocesi di Assisi, Nocera Umbra, Sassoferrato. A part is dedicated to the history of state of Modena from XII century, Byshops of Modena, history of Badia di Nonantola from its establishment until present times (description of library also), Churches and goods Nonantola had in different parts of Italy. The text is enriched of more than 43 very fine copper prints in the text engraved by Carlo Antonini (1740-1821) showing different views: Nonantola, palazzo seminario abbaziale, Modena, cattedrale di Modena, San Silvestro di Nonantola, Fanano, Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo di Nonantola, Bologna, Castelvetro, Chiesa di san Luca di Camurana, Sestola, Crevalcore, Serra Sant Abbondio, Monastero di Fonte Avellana, and some allegorical scenes, one of them in the title page covered with tissue paper. Binding in very good conditions. Inside pages are in good conditions with occasional foxings. Missing restored part in the first title page. Restauration sign in the lower and right edge until pag. V. Little missing parts in the right edge from pag. 309 until 216 with no loss of text. Little worming in the folding edge from pag. 519 until the end with no loss of text.

This is a wonderful copy of the first trade edition of 'Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens' which was the first featuring of Peter Pan in the book title. It has the original russet cloth with gilt titles to the spine and upper board, along with a decorative gilt illustration of Peter Pan riding a goat on the front board and a map of Kensington Gardens on the front free endpaper.

Critics were overwhelmed by the symbiosis of the writer J. M. Barrie with the at this time relatively unknown illustrator Arthur Rackham. For example, the Pall Mall Gazette wrote: "Not the least part of that good fortune that follows Mr. Barrie´s steps is his choice of an illustrator.
