About This Item

Chester: (Catherall & Pritchard), c. 1865. Not the first edition (which was 1856)- undated and lacks title page carrying publishing details, but from text is probably an 1860s new edition (1861 is mentioned in text). HB. Leather spine and corners over red cloth boards, with marbled endpapers, gilt short title and borders to spine.160pp, octavo. With folding engraved 'Pictorial Plan of Chester' at start, followed by engraved plate showing Chester from Curzon Bank. As stated, the title page is missing, but 2 pages of contents are present in the prelims, as well as the map and plate stated. History, topography and features of the city of Chester. The main text block is very good and well bound, largely clean though with some foxing at start; the folding map is fair only, much repaired with paper tape and with some figures in blue pencil to back, though the image of the map itelf is reasonable. The covers are worn and rubbed with fading to cloth. Overall a fair only reading copy.
