About This Item
London: William Heinemann, 1921. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 10.5" by 8". None. A first edition of Max Beerbohm's successful collection of satirical cartoons drawn during the First World War. Containing fifty-two of Max Beerbohm's iconic caricatures, this work was written during the First World War and satirises many of the key platers and figures related to the war, including David Lloyd George, Woodrow Wilson, H. H. Asquith, Edward Carson, Edmund Gosse and Alfonso XIII of Spain.Max Beerbohm was an English caricaturist and humourist whose cartoons were iconic of their time; usually drawn in pen or pencil with muted watercolour tinting. His work first began to gain popularity after appearing in the first edition of 'The Yellow Book'. He was famously inept at drawing hands and feet, which were often avoided in his art.The first edition. In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally generally smart, with a little bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, with the odd mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good
