About This Item

First Edition. Near fine / no dust jacket, as issued. The Texas City Disaster of 1947 was an industrial explosion which occurred on a ship at port in Galveston Bay at the Houston Ship Channel. 567 people died including all aboard the GrandCamp and all but one member of the Texas City Volunteer Fire Dept. It was and is the largest industrial explosion in American history. This book is a compilation of reports and stories from residents and organizations, in Texas City, 8 months after the disaster. Published in the interest and for the benefit of a Texas City Memorial Library. The book is in near fine condition with very slight shelf wear. There is no dust jacket, which is, I think how it was issued. ('We Were There' is a 50 year follow up to this book which I have listed elsewhere in my inventory).

About mark mcdonald

Book collector for over 30 years. I'm retired and ready to sell. I buy almost exclusively from estate sales and since I've lived in Dallas my whole life, I know the people and where to go. I am a low volume collector and seller and deal in higher quality books. I have a lot of signed and inscribed books. These signatures have not been officially authenticated, but I am confident in their authenticity so I will guarantee them in perpetuity if it can be reasonably demonstrated that the signature is incorrect. .
