Edge and corner wear, scuffed and scratched, corners are bumped and rubbed, lightly shelf worn, pages are toning, .15 written in ink on the ffep and a date in ink on the inner front cover, pages are toning, front and rear hinges are beginning to crack, small piece the size of a quarter chipped out near the top of the spine and a much smaller one near the base, overall a clean vintage used first Hurst & Co. edition! No publisher's date but appears to be mid to late 19th century. Arlington Edition. Extremely rare! Blue Decorative cloth with embossed blue lettering on the front cover bordered by black and gilt bordered blue embossed lettering on the spine. Wonderfully well-preserved! Very very scarce printing! 251 unmarked and uncreased historical pages! "Having heard, for the first time, that my adventures have been doubted and looked upon as jokes, I feel bound to come forward and vindicate my character for veracity, by paying three shillings at the Mansion House of this great city for the affidavits hereto appended. This I have been forced into in regard of my own honor, although I have retired for many years from public and private life; and I hope that this, my last edition, will place me in a proper light with my readers." ---- from To The Public..
