Jones." 2 volumes (vii, [5], vi, 555, [1] p.; xiv, [2], 544, [24] p.): 5 leaves of engraved plates (1 folded); 21 cm. 8vo. Contemporary tree calf with red morocco spine labels bearing gilt-tooled title "Coxe's Switzerland" and black morocco spine labels with gilt-tooled volume numbers and decoration. One former owner's name (Henry Zantzinger) appears in red on both title pages, where it has been crossed out, and on p. 1 of vol. 2. Another former owner's name (Geo. Vaux) appears on front fixed endpapers, the blank leaf following front free endpaper, and the half title of vol. 1. Inscription on blank leaf indicates that Vaux acquired the volumes in 1859. This edition is a revision, "with information from further travels, of the author's Sketches of the Natural, Civil and Political State of Swisserland." Includes index and bibliographical references. Without the maps of Switzerland and of Mont Blanc called for in the list of maps and plates (as issued?), but including the folding panorama "View of the Alps as seen from the Environs of Berne" as well as plates showing a view of the lakes of Thun and Brienz from the top of the Niess, the bearded vulture, the timber bridge of Wettingen, and two bouquetins. In Very Good- Condition: edges rubbed; lacking part of morocco volume number label on vol. 1; front joint of vol. 1 weak; small triangular section of leather lacking from front board of vol. 1 at head of spine; leather at both ends of vol. spine and at head of vol. 2 spine lacking; leather on vol. 1 spine cracked; plates have left shadows on facing pages; occasional light foxing; otherwise clean and bright.
