About This Item

1946. Good +. [4] p.: illustration; 20 cm. The New Year's program was produced and directed by Chaplain James E. Emerson and included musical numbers and skits. The U.S.S. Breckinridge (AP-176) was a troopship named for United States Marine Corps Lieutenant General James Carson Breckinridge (1877-1942). It was commissioned with a U. S. Coast Guard crew in June 1945 and was on the way to Marseille on its first operational voyage when Japan surrendered. After bringing troops home from France, the ship was transferred to the Pacific. The New Year's celebration celebrated here preceded the ship's arrival at San Francisco in Jan. 1946. The officers named in the program are Captain H. S. Berdine, Commander J. B. Oren, and Commander C. W. Holtzman. In Good+ Condition: starting to separate at center fold; minor chipping at edges; front and back are lightly soiled.
