About This Item
The Sportsman's Press, London, 2005. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Near Fine Condition/Near Fine. Inscribed by Author. grey end-papers; inscribed by the author on the pre-title page with the words:"To Graham, With best wishes for good fishing at Hauxton. Will Garfit 1/11/10". In 1970 Will Garfit, then in his final year as a postgraduate art student, borrowed £8,250 and at an auction bought sixty-nine acres (28 hectares) of abandoned gravel pits which he had loved to explore as a child. The derelict land lay between two villages near Cambridge. Over the next thirty-five years, with the help of friends and volunteers, he turned this wilderness, into one of the most celebrated small sporting estates and conservation areas in Britain. Will Garfit believes passionately that sport and conservation have always been inseparable and it is this concept that has so brilliantly been brought to fruition at Hauxton. This completely revised and updated edition of Will's Shoot, first published in 1992, is indispensable reading for anyone managing a shoot or fishery however small but it will provide inspiration and practical ideas for a far wider readership who will be carried along by the enthusiasm of the author and the sheer adventure of an astonishing project.
