The first edition of this limited edition work, being an excerpt from the author's upcoming novel 'Birds of America', which was published the following year. This work 'is published as a New Year's greeting to friends of the author and the publisher'. Including a loosely inserted card reading 'with good wishes from Harcourt Brace Jovanovich'.Retaining the original glassine.McCarthy was an American novelist, critic and political activist, best known for her novel 'The Group', her marriage to critic Edmund Wilson, and her feud with playwright Lillian Hellman. In the publisher's original cloth backed pictorial paper covered boards, with the original glassine. Glassine light age toned, with only minor loss to the back strip tail. Internally, firmly bound.
