About This Item

New York: P.F. Collier, 1881. Irish author Charles Lever (1806-1872) was as popular as Dickens and Thackeray in the 19th century, and this is a beautiful, Near Fine six-volume set of his novels. First Edition Thus, with maroon decorative cloth binding, gilt lettering, and embossed designs. There are many illustrations. The pages are still supple and the large format (averaging over 600 pages per volume) makes it quite easy to enjoy reading; only very mild indications of wear at the margins. The copyright dates are from both 1881 and 1882, but the uniform binding indicates a simulataneous issue. Very decorative, and a spectacular example of quality 19th-Century publishing. Many institutional holdings for individual volumes, but full sets are rare these days. Note: heavy to ship. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. First Thus.. Decorative Cloth. Near Fine/No Jacket.
