Paris: Nyon, David, François Didot, 1732 In-12, engr. title and front., [12], 524 pp. Cont. calf, spine with raised bands gilt, as front endpapers used a catalogue of editions of Barrême's works (binding rubbed at extremities, head of the spine chipped, joints split at bottom, binding somewhat loose but firm, title page detached, faint number at the top of the front free endpaper, ownership entry at the top of the title, minor spotting and toning of paper). Popular textbook of arithmetic for merchants was written by French mathematician François Barrême (1638-1703), who is considered one of the founders of accounting. The first edition of the book was published in 1672. Expanded edition, which was augmented by his son N. Barreme, was published in 1723.
