Inscribed January 1890, called The Finger Prayer Book due to its shape, approximately 90 mm tall x 28 mm (cover size), (3½ x 1 inches), pages: (5 + 1 blank), 77-599, as issued, bound in black leather with rounded corners, single rule blind border to covers, "Common Prayer" and the cross gilt on upper cover, gilt title on spine, all edges red and gilded, gilt inner dentelles (turn ins), brown endpapers. Pencil inscription on blank following front endpaper, head and tail of spine and corners very slightly rubbed, inner dentelles slightly chipped, gilt on lower edges and at lower corner damp damaged so that red showing only (see image), tip of lower page corners also affected by damp and tips creased throughout most of the volume. A good plus clean copy. Edition unknown circa 1895 printed by Eyre & Spottiswoode Ltd (702 PAGE VERSION), miniature book approximately 53 x 45 mm, 2¼ x 1¾ inches, bound in original publisher's full brown leather, rounded corners, gilt title to spine, sterling silver hallmarked plaque attached to front cover depicting 5 angels' heads in relief surrounded by clouds (based on Joshua Reynolds), all edges gilt, brown endpapers, 702 pages including title page. Spine slightly rubbed at head and tail and on lower hinge, edges of lower cover very slightly rubbed, title page very slightly worn at top and bottom edges, a few corner tips creased, pages 81-84 reinserted and 83/84 with slight loss to upper margin, tiny pale stain to 1 page with loss of a couple of letters, all easily legible (see images), final page and facing endpaper slightly dusty. Oxford: Printed by S. Collingwood and Co. at the Clarendon Press., 1828. 32mo (9 x 5.5cm). Contemporary 'cathedral binding' of full red morocco with embossed gothic architectural decoration to the boards and spine. Owner's name "A. Berriman" in gilt to the upper board and the date "Jan. 1. 1834" to the lower board. A very good copy, the binding firm with a little rubbing to the extremities and a small worm hole to foot of the lower joint. The contents with a some cracking to the rear hinge, a little scattered foxing and some minor creasing to a few page corners are otherwise in very good order. A charming miniature prayer book in an attractive gothic 'cathedral binding'.

A few minute marks and scrapes to covers, one damaging 2 letters of the title on the upper cover (see image), endpapers show slight marks due to the removal of sticky tape (see image), contents otherwise clean and tight, no inscriptions. A very good plus copy in its own decorative sterling silver carrying case complete with chain. Case in excellent condition.
