Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau was a French physician and botanist. He carried out many experiments in plant physiology and this work is formed of several treatises. His 'Traite de la culture des terres' was published in 1750, which was then followed by five further parts, with the final part being issued in 1760. The editor of this work, Mills, discussed these different parts to his preface. This English edition was translated and edited by John Mills. This was his first work in the field of agriculture and is a translation of various experiments from the then five volume work by Duhamel du Monceau.
