OCLC finds 9 copies under 4 accession numbers.
Binding rubbed & scuffed, joints & hinges cracked, gilt dull at spine label, ownership signatures of John G.C. Brainard & Rich. Hayes, Jr in old ink at front blanks, couple of leaves with short tears in the margins (text unaffected), several page corners turned, text tanned & foxed, a good or better copy.

Wraps mostly split at the fold & now repaired with archival tissue on the verso, soiled, edge wear, previous owner's name in ink on the upper wrap (Buchinger ?), text browned, light foxing/ toning mostly evident on the versos of the plates, otherwise good or better.

Bindings very slightly soiled, shallow loss & fraying at the top of the spine on volume six, spine labels a bit toned & foxed, couple of hinges starting to crack (still secure), a good or better set.
A nice set of Burns who is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland, enhanced by numerous illustrations & printed music.

Binding lightly rubbed, slight fraying at spine extremities, hinge started at title page, otherwise Very Good. Originally published in London in 1862, this copy is one of seven titles in Ticknor & Field's "Books in Blue and Gold" series. The publisher utilized imported sheets from the original printer & provided decorative bindings which "were an instant success and made it clear that buyers do judge books by their covers" (American Antiquarian Society). As described in the preface, "The present volume is rather a condensation than an abridgment of the later volumes of Captain Hall's 'Fragments of voyages and travels,' inasmuch as it comprises all the chapters of the second and third series, only slightly abbreviated, in which the author describes the various duties of the naval lieutenant and commander."

Detroit: Johnson Smith & Co., no date [ca 1925]. Small 8vo, unpaginated [36 pp.], including illustrated front wrapper. Publisher's pictorial, stapled stiff paper wraps.
Trace edge wear, moderately toned, otherwise very good.
The story of John "Babbacombe" Lee relayed in the first person who survived execution by hanging on three different occasions in February of 1885. After the final attempt the attending medical officer declined to proceed. Released from prison in 1907, Lee emigrated to the United States where he died in 1945. The story inspired the 1971 album "Babbacombe Lee" by the English folk rock group Fairport Convention, making it the first "folk rock opera" in music history.

New York: Duffield & Company; London: Chatto & Windus, 1908 - 1909 Nine variously paginated octavo volumes only (of thirteen), one of 1000 sets of which 500 "are reserved for America" Publisher's gray cloth backed in vellum, lettered in red & black on the spines Top edges gilt, the others uncut. Bindings soiled & lightly spotted, vellum browned, text tanned & occasionally foxed, previous owner's name at ffep in one volume, good or so & still quite serviceable. Inexplicably, one volume does not include the limitation statement.
