One-inch tear at the top of the front hinge; back strip additionally chipped, but still very presentable. Exterior of the boards are marbleized. Bookplate of "Lord Dinorbin" (apparently the owner of Welsh coal mines) on FEP. Interior bright with very little (if any) foxing.

Cutter, the editorial supervisor of this monumental publication, was Historian of the New England Historical-Genealogical Society, Librarian Emeritus of Woburn Public Library, author of "The Cutter Family" and "History of Arlington," etc. Adams was President of the Connecticut Valley Historical Society, publisher of the Pynchon Genealogy, "Picturesque Hampden," "Picturesque Berkshire," etc. Attractive tan buckram library binding. Part of the set once belong to Weston College Library (the first volume being marked as "withdrawn"). The first volume (712 pages) offers a chronological and thematic account of the city, starting with "Prehistoric Minneapolis" and ending with "Statisical Review," "Chronological Summary," and "Review and Conclusions." The other two volumes (830 and 836 pages respectively) contain biographical accounts of the of the city's prominent citizens -- among whom, unfortunately (though admittedly our search was cursory), we found no women. Amply illustrated throughout. Attractive publication. The interior is bright , and clean; cover shows moderate shelf wear (e.g. chipping of edges)

Auburn, Maine: The Author, 1882. First edition. Hardcover. Good. 8vo, 6 x 9.5, xvi + 620 pages, with tweny-six tipped-in plates. Binding is tight, except front hinge is loose and a few of the tipped-in plates are detached (but present and in place). There is some water staining on the back cover and at the top of approx. six pages, else the interior is clean with nominal toning.
This genealogy, with many interleaved illustrations, offers a history of the Little family from George of Newbury, the immigrant ancestor, through nine generations of his descendants, in both male and female lines. Almost all the first three generations lived and died in Newbury, Massachusetts. Through the end of the eighteenth century (i.e., ca. 1800), we rarely find the family beyond the bounds of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. A well-researched genealogical history of the Stiles family, primarily the family of Robert Stiles of Rowley (1639) through nine generations (534 pages) and the family of William Stiles of Dover (before 1715) through seven generations (28 pages). The volume includes essays by Henry R. Stiles on the origins of the family and name (six pages) and the Stiles family in England (61 pages). Clean interior on high quality paper, in need of rebinding. Boards are present and attached to the book block, but the back strip is completely torn off and the spine is broken completely in one place and mostly broken in a second. If not replaced, the existing binding could be easily repaired using existing materials.

Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, eleventh edition, 1910. Full Flexible Leather with Vertical Case. Very Good +. Large 4to, complete with 29 volumes, 8.75 x 11.75, about 1000 pages each. The ultimate encyclopedic reference for the historian (or any other scholar who wishes to discover the \"state of knowledge\" in his or her specialty before 1910). When we found that precious edition at a yard sale in Minnesota (more than 40 years ago, when we were a lowly graduate student), we almost wet our pants. Of course we bought it, even though it cost us nearly two months\' rent, and we\'ve been hauling it around with us ever since. Amiens: Alfred Caron, 1856-1862. First edition. Quarter Leather. Very Good +. 5 volumes, 12mo 5 x 7, about 550 pages each. Jean Pages, historian, master of the community of merchants of Amiens and Consul in 1706, was born in Amiens in 1655, and died in 1723. His "Mansuscrits" were written at the turn of the century (ca 1700) and were published by Louis Douchet, in five volumes in 1856-1862. The original manuscripts are conserved in the Amiens Public Library, consisting of 10 folio volumes with the title �Notes on the City of Amiens.� All Five volumes tightly bound, marbleized board with black leather, gold-stamped spine. Beautifully preserved.

London: William Smith, 1838. half leather. Very Good. 8vo, 7 x 9.5, xx + xvi + 950 pages. Tightly bound, with attractive brown leather spine (black label) and marbleized boards. Clean, bright interior with foxing only on first dozen pages.

Dublin: Marchbank, 1781. Hardcover. Very Good. 6 Volumes, To which is added the trial of Ravaillac, for the murder of Henry the Great Full leather, with spines carefully repaired in brown coated cloth. Interiors good: some foxing, but pages are supple.

Bristol: J. W. Arrowsmith, 1881. Half leather. Good +. 3 Volumes in one, 4to, 8.75 x 11, x + 318; vii + 308; x + 356 pages. Beautifully illustrated. Tightly bound, except back strip has torn away from boards, which remain firmly attached to the book block. Beautifully marbleized end papers and paper edges; interior is clean, bright.
