Interview with Lauren Komnenus of Farbeyond Books
- When did you get started in bookselling?
- Started in 2023, as a way to help sort the many books from the Estate of James Gunn.
- What drew you to bookselling?
- The quietness of it all, sitting in stacks of books, organizing an inventory, researching the value, it is all very fun.
- Did you have any mentors in becoming a bookseller?
- I have help from the exceptional Kij Johnson, who grew up in her family's bookstore, and has taught me many tricks to cleaning up and organizing books.
- What are your specialties as a dealer?
- Science fiction classics
- What's the most amazing book you've ever sold?
- Signed copy of Asimov's "Foundation"
- What is your favorite part of being a bookseller?
- Taking care of books and finding them new homes
- If so, do/did you have any bookstore pets?
- I work from home so I always have my cats Miette & Leeloo and cockatiels Peepers & Petri to keep me company.
- What is your favorite bookshop (other than your own)?
- The Raven Bookstore in downtown Lawrence, Kansas!
- What do you personally like to read? Collect?
- I am currently on a Romance/Fantasy binge, but considering that my partner is a science fiction author his stories will remain my favorites.
- What's your favorite book you personally own? Would you sell it, if the price were right?
- An original Chilton Press first edition of Dune!
- What one book would you buy if price were no object?
- A signed copy of "The Martian Chronicles" by Bradbury
- If you were stranded on a desert island and could bring three books, what would they be?
- The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury is all I would need
