Over the course of his long career Bruce Davidson has travelled the world making reportage stories both on assignment as a member of the Magnum agency and on subjects of personal interest. A few years ago he returned to his archive of negatives housed in a room in his Manhattan apartment and began a ritual of revisiting each and every one of the stories he had made, from his work as a student in 1954 to his urban landscapes in Los Angeles in 2009. Printing in his darkroom alongside the archive, he began to elaborate a very personal selection, discovering forgotten images and throwing new light onto some of his most famous series. Outside Inside is the result of this work, a sumptuous three volume box set with fifty-t…Read more

Women presents more than 60 works by two world-famous photographers: Peter Lindbergh and Garry Winogrand. A further highlight is a selection of very rare color photographs by Winogrand, shot in 1958–64. Short essays by Joel Meyerowitz on Winogrand, and by Ralph Goetz on Lindbergh, complete the volume.

On 14 January 1958, the disfigured and amputated body of a man was discovered near Lake Sembako in Japan. Two investigators from Tokyo came to help out the local police in order to resolve what at first appeared to be a banal case, but which proved to be more complex. For the first time, a photographer, Yukichi Watabe, was authorized to accompany the police to document the investigation. Watabe followed the inspector as he questioned witnesses (workers in a tannery factory, local police officers, etc.) and pounded the streets of the most insalubrious neighbourhoods in Tokyo its bars, bridges, alleyways and hospitals in search of the killer. Watabe's images record much more than simply a police investigation, they reveal Tokyo in the 1950s in a way that has rarely…Read more

In this two-volume set, two artists and two writers explore the concept of the "model city" through the lens of New Haven, Connecticut. The collaboration grew out of a 2013 joint residency at the Yale University Art Gallery by photographers Jim Goldberg and Donovan Wylie. In Candy, Goldberg, a New Haven native, uses Super 8 film stills, images of New Haven's urban landscape, annotated Polaroid portraits, and collaged archival materials to create a photo-novel about the trajectory of 20th-century American cities. A Good and Spacious Land, with photographs by Irish-born Wylie, chronicles the changes to New Haven's topography during the construction of a massive highway interchange, offering connections between a contemporary American interpretation of th…Read more

Bruce Davidson's Subway
Published by Aperture Foundation in 2011 - SOLD OUT and now OUT OF PRINT
RARE! NEW, UNOPENED and SEALED in publisher's original shrinkwrap
Note: All images are of the actual item for sale.
Bruce Davidson's groundbreaking Subway, first published by Aperture in 1986, has garnered critical acclaim both as a documentation of a unique moment in the cultural fabric of New York City and for its phenomenal use of extremes of color and shadow set against flash-lit skin. In Davidson's own words, the people in the subway, their flesh juxtaposed against the graffiti, the penetrating effect of the strobe light itself, and even the hollow darkness of the tunnels, inspired an aesthetic that goes unnoticed by passengers who are trapped underground, hiding behind masks and closed off from each other. In this third edition of what is now a classic of photographic literature, a sequence of 118 (including 25 previously unpublished) images transport the viewer through a landscape at times menacing, and at …Read more

Dave Heath's Multitude, Solitude: The Photographs of Dave Heath
Published by the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in 2015 - SOLD OUT and now OUT OF PRINT
RARE! NEW, UNOPENED and SEALED in publisher's original shrinkwrap!
NOTE: All images are of the actual item for sale.
The work of American photographer Dave Heath (b. 1931) stuns with its emotional potency. Exploring themes of loneliness and alienation in modern society, Heath's photographs depict strangers riding the train, watching a Thanksgiving parade, staring pensively at their dining room table, or kissing on the side of a street. Entirely self-taught, Heath stretches the boundaries of the medium and explores the potential of the photo-narrative—through handmade book maquettes, innovative multimedia slide presentations, and other photographic experimentations.
This is the first comprehensive survey of Heath's deeply personal work, focusing on his astounding contributions to black-and-white photography. These images span the first 20 years of his career, 19…Read more

RARE! NEW, UNOPENED and SEALED in publisher's original shrinkwrap!
Between 1990 and 1992, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, funded by a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, made multiple trips to Los Angeles to scout locations, invent scenarios and to find male prostitutes that would agree to pose for his camera. The last task proved to be the easiest: diCorcia simply used his fellowship money to pay the men whatever price they charged for their most typical service and ultimately prompted a complaint of misuse of government funds. In 1993, 21 selected images were initially exhibited at The Museum of Modern Art, marking Philip-Lorca diCorcia's first solo exhibition. The show, entitled Strangers was accompanied by a museum catalog. Twenty years later, Steidl publishes the series in its entirety. Hustlers is an empathetic yet melancholic poem of the Hollywood dream gone wrong, prescribing to the heavily-staged pictorialism a…Read more

Andy Warhol's Red BooksPublished by Steidl and Pace/MacGill Gallery, New York in 2004 - SOLD OUT and now OUT OF PRINTNEW, UNOPENED and SEALED in publisher's original shrinkwrap!....extremely difficult, if not impossible, to find NEW.The Polaroid camera combined two of Andy Warhol's obsessions – the disposable nature of modern consumerism and the photograph as a ready-made. He was an inveterate and relentless user of Polaroid cameras and during the 1970s he made thousands of instant photographs. The near-instant nature of the Polaroid process meant that the photographs could be passed around, admired, sometimes written on moments after the event had been captured. It was a useful tool for a somewhat shy character, one that encouraged interaction and collaboration. In addition to his many portrait commissions, Warhol's Polaroids were used for such Grammy-winning designs as the Rolling Stones' "Sticky Fingers" album cover in 1971.Between 1970 and 1976 Warhol established a rigorous system of cataloging. He woul…Read more
