A journalist who loved writing about the American Revolution, Ms. Forbes won a Pulitzer for this book, and a Newberry Award for her juvenile historical fiction entitled "Johnny Tremain." Pages are yellowing; interior has no marks. Not ex-library.

An invaluable collection of the history of the "Gay Nineties" (a decisive time in the city's history) written from first hand accounts and compiled by a native Nashvillian. The DJ has slight fraying around the edges.

Originally published in Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1843. Nice copy with brown cloth cover, no dust jacket. Book plate with previous owner's name on inside front cover. Otherwise, no interior markings.

There were 36 titles in the "We Were There" series for children, produced between 1955 and 1963 by Grosset and Dunlap. The authors write a fictional account of an actual historical event, inserting a child into the story to make the event more understandable.
