This is one of fifty copies in full golden brown oasis morocco, gilt press mark on the upper cover, top edge gilt. Mardersteig's lengthy (60-page) introduction is followed by Feliciano's treatise on the construction of Roman letters (ca. 1460). The 25 letters are hand-colored in two colors (after the original manuscript) with the corresponding construction grid on facing verso. Mardersteig was fascinated by the career of Feliciano (1433-1479), who started off as a professional caligrapher and lived into the print era, even publishing a volume of Petrarch in Poiano in 1476. Book is fine, free of all markings, binding fresh and flexible. Prospectus laid in, VG+. Slipcase is tight and free of splits, clean except for what looks like a small streak of a coffee drip on the back edge (the part that does not face the shelf). Lovely book. Mardersteig 121. In addition, the actual copper intaglio plate for one of the images is built into the slipcase itself. There are 25 images in the book and this edition is limited to 25 copies because each slipcase has an original Sepp copper intaglio plate embedded in the slipcase. First edition, number 427 of only 500 copies of this complete collection of seven prints commemorating milestones in aviation, each signed by the pilot. Very rare thus. All prints fresh and attractive, each in a colored metal frame. A stunning set. Each print approximately 16 x 13.5 inches visible (each print is matted, framed, and glazed in frames of various colors). Each print bears the Currier Press embossed stamp. Prints are bright and fine (very minor marginal creasing and a small closed marginal tear to the Wright print, not affecting image). Previously sold by Baumann Books and coming with their descriptive sheet. Also included is the plain brown portfolio that originally housed the prints. Please note that this set is very heavy in the metal frames.

These hardcovers were obvously intended for library use but this copy remains free of all markings -- about as new. Nice book.
