Denver, Colorado: William Henry Jackson, 1890. 3 7/8" by 6 1/4" Perhaps a contemporary print: certainly prior to 1897 when Jackson joined the Detroit Publishing Co. and turned his negatives over to the company. At that time the inventory number for "The Old Palace Santa Fe" was changed from 3012 (as on the photo offered here) to 08156, and Detroit Publishing Co. was added at lower right edge. Unknown: M. L. Jackson, 1912. Original postcard from the "Hallowe'en Don'ts" series produced by M. L. Jackson. As the the postcard says: "Don't be afraid for on Hallowe'en if you take a lighted candle and a mirror clean at the stroke of twelve, look in and there's seen the face of your lover that I ween." The postcard is embossed and has the publisher's lion's head logo. Postmarked on Hallowe'en, October 31, 1912 in Iowa; the name of the city begins with "H" but the remainder is obscured. Williamsburg, Virginia: Printing Office of Colonial Williamsburg, 1972. 23 pages. A facsimile reprint hand set in Caslon type and printed by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation; marbled paper cover. It was the fourth in a series of reprints published by the Colonial Williamsburg Printing Office. John Adams asserted that this political pamphlet so impressed delegates to the 1776 Continental Congress that they chose Jefferson to write the Declaration of Independence. Volume 1 is a second edition dated 1937; volume 2 perhaps is a second printing--dated 1938 with the "eight" effaced and replaced with a pinted "nine"; volume 3 is a 1941 first printing. Bound in the original green cloth, with gilt lettering on spines and front covers. These reminiscences of Thomas A. Edison's former laboratory assistant are a history of Edison and electricity from 1878 to 1929. All 3 volumes are clean and tight with light toning of pages. U. S. Senator Carl Hayden was at the time the longest serving (1912-1969) member of the United States Congress. Often called "the Silent Senator" because of his tendency to avoid speechmaking in favor of working behind the scenes, Hayden was especially effective in promoting the federal highway systen and federal programs for mining, irrigation, and reclamation in the American west (especially in his home state of Arizona). Of Pa., 1898. 79, (1) pages.  Second edition.   An interesting advertising cook book in that the pictorial ads for Enterprise appear occasionally among the recipes rather than all in one section--ads for Enterprise coffee mills, food choppers, meat choppers, cherry stoners, ice shredders, raisin and grape seeders, and (of course) sad irons.  The book is in about very good condition: clean and tight, with somewhat faded covers a faint stain in upper margin of title page... Washington D. C.: Unpublished, 1934. A typed letter (TLS) on official National Recovery Administration stationery addressed to Willoughby N. Offley, thanking him for his support and good work within the NRA. Johnson had just been fired by President Roosevelt, and the letter makes it clear that Offley also has lost his job in the agency. And this takes place just short months away from the Supreme Court declaring the National Industrial Recovery Act unconstitutional! Both Johnson and Offley were career military officers, Johnson having completed his career prior to 1934 and Offley just beginning his after the stint with the NRA.
