James Lyons and the Lyons family, Floyd Boyington, Earl Allen, and the Vaughn, Bodeker, Hiatt, Johnston, and Kuiken families; local businesses; churches; the Mari-Linn school; the Santiam Valley Grange; mills and lumber companies; etc. One of the authors was Ginger Griffith, the City Recorder, who helped collect and organize this information at the request of Effie Anderson, the mayor from 1978-1982. Lyons suffered some loss of structures in the massive wildfires of 2020.

Written and published by Keep to provide a convenient and well-illustrated manual of the more common shells found on the coast of California. The first chapter treats the structure of Mollusks, the second gives directions for finding, studying, and preserving specimens; the remainder of the volume is taken up with descriptions of the several species. Most shells in this volume were collected at Monterey Bay. Josiah Keep (1849-1911) was a conchologist and Professor at Mills College. The illustrations were made by George H. Baker of San Francisco [presumed to be George Holbrook Baker (1827-1906), artist, art teacher and lithographer.
