Ex Officina Plantiniana, Raphelingii. M.D.CV., 1605.. 1605 [16], 480 p. Contemporary yapp edged vellum binding, titled in ink on the spine. The front joint is starting to crack. There is an old water stain at the head of the pages through the first half of the book, most evident at the front and diminishing further into the text. The text is otherwise clean and crisp. Several 19th and 20th century ownership inscriptions on the front endpapers.

Maidstone, From the Press of J. Smith, High Street, , 1817. . 1817 Broadside poster 566x454 mm. Slight loss from the blank margin at the top right corner. The staining results from its having been used to line a chest which has however ensured its survival. It has recently been professionally conserved and stabilised, but not cleaned in any way. This sale resulted from the bankruptcy of the proprietor, but a successor business was producing Maidstone cherry brandy into the 1960s despite the original opposition of the Excise.

Contemporary brown cloth binding, rebacked at some time with the original spine and part of the paper label preserved. The text pages are clean and tight. Richard Hollinworth or Hollingworth (1607–1656) was an influential Presbyterian clergyman in Manchester and surounding area. He was named by Humfrey Chetham to be one of the feoffees of his library on its foundation and this first printing of Mancuniensis was made from Hollinworth's manuscript held by Chetham's Library.

The Introductioin informs us that Mrs. Sim was housekeeper at Rossdhu House, seat of Sir James Colquhoun and Luss. A scarce Sottish cookery book with distinctive Scottish recipes includinga receipt for heron soup.

Manuscript Index on thinner, slightly smaller paper inserted after p. [4]. Moses' fine engraved label on front pastedown. Roan backed printed boards with some wear at spine ends. Boards with small dampstain at outer corners. Contents clean and crisp. Weyman's popular collection had a complex publishing history, the title originating with William T'ansur in the 1760s. Weyman's collection first appeared in 1812, with many undated reissues in both Dublin and London. I have been unable to trace another copy of this edition. A revised edition by John Smith also published by Moses appeared in [1844] according to the British Library catalogue.

Presumed first edition as there is no edition statement (there appear to have been 3 editions in 1819). Contemporary diced calf binding, worn on the edges and corners but sound. Recent reback with the original label preserved. Henry Martyn 1781-1812 worked as a missionary in the Ottoman empire and in India, including translating the whole of the New Testament into Urdu, Persian and Judaeo-Persic. He also translated the Psalms into Persian and the Book of Common Prayer into Urdu.

The boards panelled with a wide twisted ribbon roll inside a two line roll. The spines gilt between wide flat bands, lettered in the second and fourth compartments. Minor shelf wear only. The text is clean and tight with light offsetting from the plates. A handsome set.
