For sale is a signed pamphlet by esteemed Hematologist Dr. Philip Levine to Dr. Elias Cohen of the Roswell Park Memorial Institute, now the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York. The pamphlet is about Dr. Levine receiving the first Franz Oehlecker gold medal at the German Embassy "in recognition of [his] scientific contributions in the area of blood transfusions". The pamphlet is signed in the upper right corner in blue ink. The pamphlet is in very good condition. Light wear and soiling. Dr. Philip Levine was a Hematologist and was the first to identify the RH hemolytic disease in 1939. This led to the creation of Dr. Alexander Wiener's procedure called an Exchange Transfusion in 1946. At the time, the procedure was able to save over 200,000 lives. An intramuscular injection of anti-RHD immunoglobulin was created in 1964 and is still in use today, saving the lives of over 20,000 babies each year in the USA alone.
