Glasgow: A. Fullarton & Co., 1838. Leather. Good. 8.5" by 5.5". Not Stated. A complete four volume set on the Scottish Highlands and the Highland clans, with illustrations throughout. Bound in two volumes. Complete in four volumes, bound in two. A detailed and comprehensive history of the Highlands from Roman times, through the Pictish period and Stuart reign, with the history of the rebellion. Also includes commentary on various origins of Highland Clans, such as: Clan-Campbell, The Clan Chameron, The Gaulgall, and many more. The fourth volume includes the history of military service of Highland regiments and fencible corps. Volumes one and two are illustrated with a total of six plates and a large folding map of the clans to the rear. Volumes three and four are illustrated with a total of fourteen plates to the rear. Written by James Browne, a Scottish historian and author. Bound in half red calf and red cloth boards. Externally, sound with rubbing and wear resulting in light loss to the extremities. Fading to the spine and the odd mark to the boards. A large faded mark to the front board of volume two. Front hinges starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd spot and marks to the odd page. Age toning and scattered spotting to the first and last few pages. Good
