Description:
This has to be an extremely rare first edition of this important historical archive. We have not found another edition of this book prior to 1880. The pages are readable and the illustrations in good condition. There is moderate foxing on most of the pages and moderate yellowing on a few of the pages. There is what appears to be light to heavy water stains on many of the pages. There does not appear to be any missing pages or tears on any of the pages . Front page wrinkled engraving of Pres. Lincoln has separated from the binding as has the covers. The cloth over board covers are heavily worn. However, the gold leaf work on the spine and the title on the spine are still visible despite some tears and separation along the spine.. The remaining pages appear to be tightly bound. On the last textual page and the last fly-leaf page there is an upside down stamp of the Southern Book Exchange of Hagerstown, Md. We are still in the process of pricing the book and searching for another existing first… Read More

Description:
From Wiikiipedia: George English was an American Marine was commissioned a second lieutenant. He sailed to the Mediterranean, and was among the first citizens of the United States known to have visited Egypt. Shortly after arriving in Egypt he resigned his commission, converted to Islam and joined Muhammad Ali Pasha as the Topgi Bashi (chief of artillery) in an expedition up the Nile River against Sennar 1820, winning distinction as an officer of artillery. Some historians have noted that "there is a high probability that he became a secret agent" and that his service in Egypt was a part of that intelligence service. He published his Narrative of the Expedition to Dongola and Sennaar (London 1822) regarding his exploits. This volume is the frist American edition, published one year later than the English edition. Considering its age, the book is in excellent condition. All the pages, including the fold-out map preceding the title page are whole without tears or marks, except for a small tear at… Read More

Description:
We believe this is a first edition, first printing as there are no indications of any previous editions or printings. Also, we found two other examples of this edition for sale as firsts.

The book is in excellent condition for its age. The soft leather-over board covers are in fair condition with much wear along edges, corners and spine. There is much age toning and light spotting on the fly-leaf pages, much less on the title pages and practically none on the succeeding pages. Seems to be a name in ink at the top of the first fly-leaf page Original binding is still tight.

From the Preface: "The following work originated in a serious enquiry, whether this book be a genuine part of the holy scriptures; and if so, how it should be explained..." See the photo of the CONTENTS page for the topics covered.

Book will be priority mailed to any domestic address.

Very rare first American edition, first printing of this seminal work, in excellent condition. Condition faults: some wear at the top and bottom of the spine and light toning on the inside covers and adjacent flyleaf pages. Otherwise, the book is like new. No dj. From Wikipedia (abridged): "John Maynard Keynes, ...5 June 1883 – 21 April 1946) was an English economist and philosopher whose ideas fundamentally changed the theory and practice of macroeconomics and the economic policies of governments. Originally trained in mathematics, he built on and greatly refined earlier work on the causes of business cycles.[4] One of the most influential economists of the 20th century,[5][6][7] he produced writings that are the basis for the school of thought known as Keynesian economics, and its various offshoots.[8] His ideas, reformulated as New Keynesianism, are fundamental to mainstream macroeconomics."
