McGuire also writes under the pseudonym Mira Grant.

In 2010, she was awarded the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer by the 2010 World Science Fiction Convention. The novella "Every Heart A Doorway" was given the 2016 Nebula Award for Best Novella, a 2017 Hugo Award for Best Novella, and the 2017 Locus Award for Best Novella. In 2013, McGuire received a record five Hugo nominations in total, two for works as Grant and the other three under her own name.[
