Hard. Fair+. 16mo. 6 2/3".. Illustrated with b/w engraved plates throughout.. Fair+. Vol. I is a binding copy, missing its spine, with both boards detached and with a damp-stain to the first few leaves. Hinges cracked. Slightly musty smell.

Extra engraved title pages for each volume from the 1835 edition. Frontis engravings present for all volumes along with half-title pages for all but Vol III. Some dryness to leather at spines with mild stress crazing. Boards tenuous or detached in Vols I, II and X. Mild foxing to front and rear endmatter, but text pages generally bright and clean with a few mild instances of a shallow damp stain to a small number of pages along the top edge. Marbled end papers. Contents are generally quite neat. From the personal collection of American author Osmond Tiffany with his bookplate on all front paste downs, perforation to title pages, small red stamps to verso; no other marks/wear as such. Leather worn at edges with some flaking, especially at heads. All boards attached; some hinges are a bit tender. A solid mid-19th century set of Boswell's classic biography of Samuel Johnson with two volumes of Johnsoniana and "upwards of fifty engraved illustrations.
