About This Item

Norfolk, Virginia: [Tidewater Klans], July 16, 1924. Broadside/ handbill, octavo (8.5" x 5"), printed in black ink on medium paper. Not found in OCLC as of 11/12/2023.

Brief edge wear, folded 3 times horizontally, lightly toned & soiled, otherwise very good.

The event featured an address by Dr. J.H. Hawkins, National Lecturer Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, and, of course, a rendition by attendees of The Bright Fiery Cross sung to the tune of The Old Ruggeg Cross. Additional entertainment, including The Star Spangled Banner, was provided by "Orchestra." The bottom portion provides a form to be returned by those seeking further information.

"So I'll cherish the Bright Fiery Cross/ Till from my duties at last I lay down/ Then burn me for a Bright Fiery Cross/ The day I am laid in the ground."
