Approx. 11in by 8.5in, oblong 8vo. 64pp with numerous full page colour illustrations and monochrome text illustrations. This is the first of 13 Golliwogg books written and illustrated by the Uptons. In this first book in the series the golliwogg was not intended as the 'star' of the show and he was really just a supporting character to the Dutch peg dolls, appearing in just over a third of the illustrations. However he proved so popular at the time that he became the central character in the subsequent books. In all of the Upton books the Golliwogg is presented as friendly and kind. Unpaginated. 'a read aloud book with fanciful illustrations that children will enjoy' (and adults!) on every page. A birthday story with a fox, racoon, fawn , bunny, squirrel and owl. Generally very good and clean inside with bright colourful illustrations.

When a strange egg appears in their nest, Mr. and Mrs. Bird kindly take it upon themselves to raise the "baby bird" inside. But when the egg hatches, the Birds are in for a big surprise. "Junior" is the oddest-looking baby bird they've ever seen, with big, long jaws full of teeth and an appetite to match. In fact, he looks more like a baby alligator than a baby bird! Nevertheless, the devoted Birds run themselves ragged feeding Junior until he gets so big, he must leave the nest or it will collapse underneath him. But how can Junior fly without wings? To the delight of the Birds and readers, the dilemma is solved when Junior takes off from a branch overlooking a pond. A Collins Early Bird Book. Generally very good and clean, slight rubbing and edge wear. Previous owner's name scored out on title page. Lovely colourful vintage illustrations and an amusing story.

Undated early hardcover edition circa 1900. This has been a well loved book! Part of outer spine missing, mark on rear board. Tear and piece missing from pictorial front endpaper. A little foxing throughout, but generally the inner book is very clean. A piece missing from corner of one page (see pictures) and a minor tear. All plates present and very clean.

Stories about the smaller engines working on the Talyllyn Railway at Tywyn in Wales. Sir Handel, Duke, Peter Sam all have their tales as well as the Thin Controller and Gordon making an appearance. Illustrated by Clive Spong. A little edge wear and a slight crease to the front board.

A page of text faced by an accompanying picture all about the gumnut babies who live in the trees, in a similar vein to the well known flower fairies.
