Description:
This novel was first published in Paris, in Russian, in 1962, under the title PODVIG (The Feat). When it was first translated, it was titled The Exploit.
In 1971, that was changed to Glory when McGraw-Hill published the first North American edition. This copy is one of those 1971 first editions.
It is about a Russian emigre's escape from Russia, his education in England, and his disastrous return to his homeland (the feat).
This copy has not been read. It is beautifully-designed.
Aside from some discoloration to the dust jacket, this book is in pristine condition.
Note: If you are outside of North America, the quoted shipping price is for surface mail without tracking. For other options, please contact me.

Description:
This is the trade paperback edition of The Pacific War: The Story of the Bitter Struggle in the Pacific Theatre of World War II, part of the Classic Conflicts series published by the British publisher Salamander Books in 1999.The American commanders conducting the war against Japan in World War II faced unique challenges. In spite of being ordered to fight a limited war until Germany could be defeated, U.S. naval and ground forces had to use their limited resources to launch an aggressive campaign to win back the Pacific islands occupied by the Japanese. Inter-service rivalry, the vast distances to be covered, and a difficult climate continually hampered operations against an overextended but dedicated enemy.
In this book, 18 military professionals examine in chapter-by-chapter fashion the evolution of the Pacific campaign, backed up by hard data and keen insights, revealing aspects of the war that will surprise many readers. See Contents photos.

Description:
This book, compiled by the American baseball historian David Nemec, illustrates the evolution of baseball, over 92 years. It contains 1229 photographs, year-by-year highlights, player information--it's an exhaustive encyclopedia.

It's a large, very heavy book: 9" x 11 1/2" x 2", 592 pages. The dust jacket and cover are identical. The dust jacket is a little battered, with a couple of taped tears at top and bottom.

The book is in superb condition, save for a tear to the paper of the spine, at the back. At the front, it is inscribed from a mother to her son, but I don't think he read it. There are no marks in it and the spine is unbroken. Great baseball book.

Description:
This is a journalists' review copy, of The National Trust Book of Great Houses of Britain, by the British writer and politician Nigel Nicolson (1917-2004). It is a first edition of the revised edition; the book was originally published in 1965 and then was re-published in 1968. In 1978, Nicolson worked with the National Trust to update it and re-publish it. In Canada, it was marketed by McGraw-Hill Ryerson, who sent it to Canadian journalists to review; that review request label is on the front endpaper.
It is not the same as the original--8 houses were omitted and replaced by 8 others; new photographs were commissioned and National Trust archival photographs were added. There are 39 houses profiled (see Contents photo); Nicolson discusses their history, architectural features, artistic merit and the lore attached to them.
The book is olive green boards with brilliant gold lettering on the spine. 8 1/2" x 11 1/4", 288 pages. Heaps of photographs, black and white and color. It does not appear to have… Read More

It is the fictional re-telling of the settlement of Hawaii seen through the eyes of the legendary figures found in Hawaiian mythology. Description:
This is a first edition (1929) of The Bellamy Trial, by the American writer Frances Noyes Hart (1890-1943).
It is the first legal drama written by an American author and defined the genre of the court-room mystery dramas. It was made into a film in 1929.
Noyes wrote the book in 1927. In 1929, it became part of the Front Page Mystery Series, published by Doubleday Doran. So this is a first edition from that series, rather than from the book's original printing.
The Bellamy Trial is an "absorbing story of the mis-alliances and crossed lives of two couples from the gentry of upstate New York; one wife has been murdered, and the husband and the other wife are the accused," so say 20th Century Crime & Mystery Writers. It is based on the infamous Hall-Mills murder case of 1922. Only the Lindbergh kidnapping received more media attention than this case; The Bellamy Trail also illustrates American society of the 1920s and depicts the first 'media circus'.
It is 324 pages. Red boards with very minor wear to… Read More
