Covers a very wide range of psychological topics from sensation and memory to reasoning and physiology, but actually not 'intelligence' as such in modern sense of a unitary quantifiable trait. White printed card with central small photo of Inglis to fr. and colour photo of Elsie Inglis Memorial Maternity Hospital in Edinburgh to back. f/piece photo of Inglis bust statue verso half-title +,t.p. + (3, prelims) + 24 pp., an apparent scribble on last p. is actually on original copy 1890 document reproduced in Appendix on pp.23/4. A virtually pristine copy. As well as being a pioneering woman doctor Inglis was the founder of the Federation of Scottish Suffrage Societies in 1906 and in 1917 went to Serbia to replace the doctor serving with the Serb army, who had been taken sick. Good (+)/No Jacket. 14 Cms x 22 Cms. 283+(6, publisher's psychology & philosophy list); endpapers & list tanned, prev.owner's 1922-dated pencil inscription on half-title+same owner's small faint signature top t.p., occ.pencil marginalia, easily eraseable but give an idea of how a contemporary reader related to the book so have left them in situ, rear end-gutter was cracked, now repaired with purpose-made paper which is a bit too white but does the job, covers clean with only minimal rubbing to extremeties but much faded as unfaded centre of back demonstrates. A really excellent reference/working copy of this influential and important work which sought to pull together the new psychological ideas of post-Great War period, including Freud, Jung, McDougall, Wilfrid Trotter and the 'suggestion' school. Covers are clean but sp.very worn exposing gatherings at top & bottom, outer edge fr. cover nicked, and creased across bottom corner, back cover similar, but less severe. (Again, will try to repair on order.) Apparently scarce and surely of interest for anyone researching impact of global warming on Alaska.
