Tri-color carbro (?) print 3 7/8 x 5 3/8 inches; mount 8 x 10 inches
A beautiful and early color photograph created by an anonymous image maker around 1920. While the autochrome was the dominant method of creating color photography at the time, many photographers were experimenting with different variations of the three-color method.
The photograph is possiby a Pinatype, which was invented by Léon Didier invented in 1903. It was an early dye imbibition process similar to the later dye-transfer process. In this print the 3 color separation negatives were made from an Autochrome screen-plate transparency.

Rare early portrait of the Western surveyor and military offiver Francis Vinton Greene, who fought in the Spanish-American War.
Inscription on verso reads:
"Just returned from a two year tour of duty assistant astronomer on NW Boundary survey and location."

Included are thirty-nine handsome, thoughtfully-composed images of young men and women in classrooms, study halls, quads, libraries, dorms, science labs, and other places of learning and leisure. There is also a photo of William Trent Jr., first executive director of the UNCF, speaking at a fundraiser at the Statler Hilton in Dallas.Also included is an essay by the photographer, Bill Anderson, who worked in New York City as a photo-journalist in the 1960s-80s.
