Quarto (8" x 11") bound in full blue synthetic leather with gilt lettering on the spine and front cover consisting of a quote by Truman. Illustrated with numerous facsimiles of Truman's writing, drawings, and photographs in color and black and white. This is one of only 250 numbered copies. Instead of a number, Truman has written the initials "G.M.E." for the recipient of the copy. Further the book is INSCRIBED by Truman as President below the initials "To: Hon. George M. Elsey,/From: The President./White House./August 10, 1952." In addition, in the blank margin beneath the color frontispiece photograph of Truman at his desk, the President has written: "To an able & efficient public servant!" The fourth book issued by Arkham House. The companion novel to The Outsider and Others. Accompanied by three letters from August Derleth to Clark Ashton Smith, discussing dust jacket art. Also includes a prepublication announcement card and a subsequent information card, as well as a letter from Derleth verifying an order for copies of Beyond the Wall of Sleep. Light rubbing at head and tail of spine and at corners of boards, text block is faintly age toned, but clean, unmarked, and tight in binding. Scarce dust jacket is slightly rubbed at spine head and tail and at corner tips. Overall near fine to fine condition.

New York: H. C. Kinsey & Company, 1938. First Edition. Hardcover. Joints and gutters of book darkened but a superior copy in both condition and association. Near Fine in a close to Fine dustwrapper. A small, slim clothbound volume of 47 pages. Roosevelt's own copy with a bookplate from the publisher on the front endpaper stating, "This is your editorial copy" with a publication date of 3 January 1938. Above the bookplate the First Lady has INSCRIBED and SIGNED the book to her daughter and son-in-law: "For Anna & John/My good critics & best/readers! With love/Eleanor Roosevelt." We have handled many signed books by Eleanor Roosevelt, but this is only the third signed example of this title we have come across and one of the very very few of any of her titles inscribed to a family member.

Rare edition, in French, of "one of the most frequently reprinted accounts of all Turkish life and customs" (Atabey). The first part details a pilgrimage from Paris to Jerusalem, the second is devoted to the Ottoman Empire. Bartolomej Djurdjevic (or Georgievitz, ca. 1506-1566) was captured at the battle of Mohács (1526), Hungary, and spent 13 years in Turkish captivity. Inscribed, signed, and dated "Nov. '81" by the French film director and the book's author Francois Truffaut, the book having been previously inscribed and signed years before by the book's subject, the film director Alfred Hitchcock, with his caricature profile drawing of himself.

The person the book is inscribed to was the Founder of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Syd Cassyd [1908 - 2000].
Gray clothbound hardcover with minimal wear or evidence of notable use. Dust jacket without tears or chips and protected by a clear jacket protector.

Accompanying the book is a dated photo documenting a November 25, 1981 meeting between Truffaut, the actor Fanny Ardant, and Syd Cassyd, on the occasion of an interview at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Presumably it was on this occasion that Truffaut signed Cassyd's book, which had already been signed by Hitchcock.
